Fernando Bórquez is the Director of Hydrometallurgy at Ceibo, where he leads a multidisciplinary team focused on developing innovative and sustainable technologies for metal extraction from mineral ores. His work emphasizes minimizing the carbon and water footprint of industrial mining processes, contributing to cleaner and more responsible practices in the sector.
With over a decade of experience in chemical engineering, Fernando has held prominent leadership roles, including overseeing Molymet’s hydrometallurgical operations—the largest molybdenum and rhenium processor in the world. At Molymet, he managed eight operational plants, leading a team of over 180 professionals and handling a budget of more than $70M. His ability to innovate has led to major process optimizations, reducing costs by millions of dollars, while simultaneously improving operational efficiency and reducing environmental impact. Fernando holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María and diplomas in Operations Management and Innovation Development from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
