Dr. Catalina Urrejola is the CTO at Ceibo, where she leads tech strategy and development overseeing proof of concepts, IP protection, scale-up strategies and derisking to secure deployment. She also focuses on all technical aspects of Ceibo’s technologies, managing a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers & attorneys in breaking the code of copper sulfides.
With a background in environmental microbiology & geochemistry, Catalina has researched life in extreme environments, focusing on the interphase of life & rocks. In Chile, Germany and the US. She has consulted for investors and companies in R&D, connecting scientists and industry. Previously, at Ceibo, she led the scale up of dust mitigation technology, now commercialized by Ceibo’s subsidiary, Casia.
Her expertise has helped Ceibo earn recognition as one of the top 15 Clean Tech Companies to Watch in 2024 by MIT Tech Review. Catalina has co-authored peer-reviewed articles on genomics, microbiology & electrochemistry. She holds a MSc in Biological Sciences and a Ph.D. in Genetics & Microbiology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
